Every person has within them a longing and thirsting for God. They
may not know that is what it is, if they are not born again. And
some that are born again, do not realize that is what it is either.
They just feel unsettled and lacking in something and may not
realize it is a hunger for the “Deep Places in God”
Psalm 42:7-8
TPT
7 My deep need calls out to the deep kindness of your love. Your
waterfall of weeping sent waves of sorrow over my soul, carrying me
away, cascading over me like a thundering cataract. Yet all day long
God’s promises of love pour over me. Through the night I sing his
songs, for my prayer to God has become my life.
Does God Weep? Yes He does. He weeps that His people do not
recognize there need for him...and that His promises are ready to
pour over them.
Luke 19:41-42

Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem
41 When Jesus caught sight of the city, he burst into tears with
uncontrollable weeping over Jerusalem, 42 saying, “If only you could
recognize that this day peace is within your reach! But you cannot
see it.
Peace is within our reach!!
As Christians, when we first got saved, we had a hunger and a desire
to know God. We were enthusiastic and ready to learn. We devoured
all we could find that would help us gain this knowledge. But for
some reason, somewhere along the way, we lost that first hunger and
desire and reached a place where we just stayed there. The desire
may still have been there, but not the drive to fulfill it and
finally, we became complacent, and satisfied that we had found our
place in God.
But I am sure that each of us knows, that this was not as it seemed.
That deep down in our souls, we knew that there was more. That the
deep part of us was crying out for the deep part of God and somehow,
could not get there. And if we don’t get to those deep places, we
will never be satisfied or fulfilled in our Christian walk.
What are the Deep Places in God?
This is getting to know the heart of God. Getting to know Him in a
way you never have before. It is reaching down into your inner most
being and connecting to God’s inner being and becoming one with Him.
Until we can come to this place, we will never really “Know” God in
the way He wants to be known. We will always feel like there is
something missing. That we just are not where we want to be or
should be, in Him. How do we get there? How do we get to the Deep
Place in God?
Psalms 42:1 As the dear pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul
for you O God.
Picture a dear running. He is tired and thirsty and he is panting,
looking for water to quench his thirst. Feel how dry his mouth is.
Nothing will satisfy until he can drink from the water by the brook.
That's how we need to feel when it comes to thirsting for the Word
of God and the Presence of God!
Verse 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I
come and appear before God? 3 My tears have been my food day and
night, While they continually say to me, “Where is your God?”
The Passion Version
42 For the Pure and Shining One
1 I long to drink of you, O God, drinking deeply from the streams of
pleasure
flowing from your presence. My longings overwhelm me for more of
you! 2 My soul thirsts, pants, and longs for the living God. I want
to come and see the face of God.
Is this how you feel about God? Do you thirst this way for His Word,
for His presence?
Until we get to a place where our soul thirsts like this for God, we
will not reach the deep places in God. We will continue in our walk
as we are, never fulfilling everything that God has for us. Never
coming to that intimate place in God where we communicate with Him
constantly and His thoughts are our thoughts. How do we get that
thirst back?
Psalm 63 TPT
For the Pure and Shining One
1 O God of my life, I’m lovesick for you in this weary wilderness. I
thirst with the deepest longings to love you more, with cravings in
my heart that can’t be described. Such yearning grips my soul for
you, my God! 2 I’m energized every time I enter your heavenly
sanctuary to seek more of your power and drink in more of your
glory. 3 For your tender mercies mean more to me than life itself.
How I love and praise you, God! 4 Daily I will worship you
passionately and with all my heart. My arms will wave to you like
banners of praise. 5 I overflow with praise when I come before you,
for the anointing of your presence satisfies me like nothing else.
You are such a rich banquet of pleasure to my soul. 6–7 I lie awake
each night thinking of you and reflecting on how you help me like a
father. I sing through the night under your splendor-shadow,
offering up to you my songs of delight and joy! 8 With passion I
pursue and cling to you. Because I feel your grip on my life, I keep
my soul close to your heart.
The passion in this plea...should be the cry of our hearts. We must
seek the Lord. All around us may be dry and thirsty, but if we seek
after the Lord, Early, we will be satisfied. Look for God in the
Sanctuary. Come expecting, and He will be there in His Power and
Glory.
The Sanctuary is anywhere that you have set aside, to seek the Lord.
That special place where you take the time to get into His presence.
You will never come to a place in the Deep Places of God, if you do
not seek Him. He is not hiding, but He wants you to come to Him. He
will not force you to become close to Him. That is your free will.
If you want to continue on the way you are going, you can. But if
you really want to know Him, if you really want to know His heart
and His perfect will for you, you must seek Him. As you seek Him,
you will begin to hunger for more. You will no longer be satisfied
with your life the way it is. You will want to be with Him, more
then any other place. Praise and Worship will be a way of life for
you. And you will begin to know God as He needs to be known.
All of us have a need to be understood. If we try to communicate
with others and they just don’t seem to be getting what we are
saying, it can be frustrating. We want to have people understand us
and not misinterpret the things we say and do. And many times that
does not happen. People get upset with us because they do not really
know us. Because if our intentions are pure, and they really knew
us, they would know and see that we only want the best for them.
Well it is the same way with God. He wants us to understand Him. He
wants us to know Him and that He has only the best for us. People
blame God for things, because they do not really know Him. Because
if they knew Him and His word, they would also know that He is not
capable of doing the things they accuse Him of. He wants us to know
how loving He is and that His word is all powerful and that it can
overcome anything that this world throws at us.
Do you want to get to know God this way? Do you want His thinking to
be your thinking? Do you want the answers to your questions?
Then you need to let the Deep in you, cry out to the Deep in God and
He will answer. He will take you to places in Him that you have
never been before. You will understand the scriptures like you never
have before. And most important, you will know Him!
