Prayer

Lesson 2

Continuing our lesson from last week, we are discussing the different types of prayer.

The Prayer of Consecration

Luke 22:42.44, Mark 14:32-41

This kind of prayer is an agonizing heart wrenching prayer if it is sincere. The hardest thing Jesus had to do was to go to the cross. Knowing the pain and the agony physically and the torment to the soul and spirit. Complete separation from the Father

His complete unselfishness and love for God and us caused Him to accept this horrible fate. John 14:27-31

Can we be as dedicated and consecrated as to give our lives over to him, to do as He wills? How small a task in comparison to what Jesus did

Hebrews 12:1-4 “For the Joy that was set before Him, he endured the cross”

For the Joy? What Joy? The joy of reconciling us to the Father. The joy that it brought the Father’s heart. Oh how He loves you and me! He loved us that much! What a sacrifice! Imaging the wrenching of the heart of the Father as he sent His own son to die.

Can we make that prayer of consecration? Are we ready for the complete sacrifice? Or are we too busy with unnecessary, unimportant things? How much time do we give to Him? How much of our life is committed to getting to know this Lord and Father and Holy Spirit, who gave so much for us? How much time do we spend before Him seeking His will, learning His word? Don’t pray this prayer unless you are willing to lay aside all the unnecessary things and do as He says.

II Corinthians 4:17, 18 Things that are seen are temporal, things that are not seen are eternal.

“Only one life, will soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last!”

The Prayer of Commitment

Committing all you cares and needs on Him is a prayer of commitment. We need to trust Him completely that what we commit to Him has been taken care of. No matter what it is. Our kids, our finances, our marriage, our daily needs of shelter and food. If we trust Him, He will take care of us.

This is one of the hardest prayers to pray because as humans, we want to do it ourselves. We want to MAKE it happen. We want to HELP God. But the more we help, the worse it gets. He knows the perfect way to bring things to pass. He doesn’t need our help, he needs our trust. Total confidence, that whatever we have committed to Him, He is more then able to bring it to pass in our lives. We need a child like faith that He will do it!

I Peter 5:7, Matthew 6:25-27, Philippians 4:6,

Amplified Bible I Peter 5:7 “Casting the whole of your care, all of your anxieties, all of your worries, all your concerns, one for all on Him, for he cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.”

Psalm 37:5 “Commit your way unto the Lord, trust also in Him and He shall bring it to pass”

Matthew 6: 25-27 “Worrying will change nothing

Luke 12:22-30 “Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat, nor for the body what you shall put on” God will provide

Philippians 4:6, Psalm 121:4, Psalm 121:4 Worry nullifies prayer

John 14:14 Have confidence that He will do it.

The prayer of commitment is also tied in with consecration. We need to be committed to consecrating our lives to Him. We need to commit fully to His will. We need to surrender our will for His and then commit to following what He tells us to do.

2Timothy 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

 Prayer of Agreement

The prayer of agreement is a powerful prayer.

Lev 26:8 And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

Deuteronomy 32:30 How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up?

This is a prayer that Changes things. If you can get someone in agreement with you, you can see things happen. Always find out what the Word says and not what you think it says. Write it down and then get someone that can agree with you to believe with you.

Matthew 18:18-20

Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth, will be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth, will be loosed in heaven.

Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that you ask, it will be done for them of My Father in heaven.

For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.

To see it come to pass you must

1. Agree in the spirit

2. Agree mentally

3. Agree physically with actions and words

If all three of these are applied, God will act.
