Lesson 6

Rivers of Living Water

John 4:7-24

Jesus gives us living water, salvation. As you drink of salvation’s living water, the infilling of the Holy Spirit comes and with Him comes the well of water springing up, Rivers of Living Water John 7:37-39, Acts 1:8, Into everlasting life. Those rivers of living water produce life, not only for you, but for others that you let those rivers flow out to. How do they flow out? Through intercessory prayer.

Isaiah 41:17-20 When the poor and the needy are thirsty and can find no satisfaction in the things of the world, God speaks and opens the rivers of intercession in high places, through Jesus and fountains from down here, his children, and the rivers of water of salvation, flow out and flood the desert and dry places and bring life to the lost, the sick, the needy, and they see and they know and understand who God is and what He has done.

Isaiah 43:18-26 “Behold I will do a new thing.” Speaking forth the word and interceding in the spirit will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. People will turn to God and honor him. But a lot of God’s children have not come before Him on the behalf of another, or even sought His face, or offered up sacrifices of praise or given Him tithes of time or money. All they have done is come to Him for forgiveness of sin to keep clean in His sight. And He has forgiven them, but He says, put me in remembrance, let us plead together.

Luke 18:1-8 We must come before the Lord on behalf of others so that they may receive from the river of life.

Genesis 18:23-25 Abraham pleaded for Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot and his family were saved.

Ezekiel 22:30 God looked for an intercessor to stand in the gap for the land and found none. Let’s be sure He doesn’t look at this land and have to say that.

Isaiah 59:16-17 God found no intercessor so He sent Jesus, wearing the same armour as He has given us in Eph. 6

Why did Jesus refer to rivers of living water in John 7? A river is moving, fresh, pure, clear and clean. Especially a mountain stream flowing into a river. It moves things along the way. Clearing the way as it goes. That’s like praying in the Spirit. As you enter intercession you begin to move objects and problems out of the way. A river will smooth out the stones it flows over. As you intercede, you begin to smooth out the sough spots on the people you intercede for.

A swamp is stagnant and moves no where. That is what happens when you don’t pray. You become stagnant and moving no where.

As a river approaches a falls, it moves faster and faster. As the water spills over the edge it’s very powerful. As you get closer to the manifestation of your prayers things start to move faster. The weeping comes and then over the edge into the travail where there is thrashing and movement, a fight (like going over the falls) and tremendous power is available.

If you were to stand and look at the river, you could tell that it is going fast. But you really have no idea unless you were to step into it. Then you would move with it. Even so, just looking in the natural you can’t see what your prayers are doing. But get into the spiritual realm by stepping into that intercessory prayer ministry and God will open your spiritual eyes and show you what is happening and you will move with God to the tremendous power of travail. Dedicate yourself to the time in prayer and you will flow in the supernatural river of God’s power, right over the edge with no effort at all. Right into the travail and then into the smooth waters for the manifestation when the work is all done.

Ezekiel 47:1-12 The temple in heaven where the river of life flows from the throne of God. Rev. 21:6, 22:1 & 2, 17, Isaiah 55:1

Here we see a man into the water ankle deep. He spends a few minutes a day in prayer. Start were you are at!

Then he goes into the water up past his knees. He has entered more deeply into a prayer life.

Suddenly he’s into the river of life flowing so deep that he cannot even cross it. Only swim in it. He’s entered into a life of deep intercession giving many hours of his time in prayer.

While he has been praying, trees have sprung up. The life source has produced them.

As the rivers of life issue from his mouth, they go out and reach the uttermost parts of the earth. The north, south, east & west, the desert, the sea, giving healing power as they go.

Everywhere his prayers of living water go, they bring life and produce fish (men& women born again) healing everything it touches on it’s way.

His prayers sent out the reapers or fishers of men (Matt. 4:19, Mark 11:7, Luke 5:10) to gather in the lost that he is interceding for and they lead them to Christ. Exceeding many!!

And yet some still reject Jesus and become stagnant and bitter.

But from his prayers will come teachers to give these babes what they need to eat, spiritual food for salvation, health, prosperity.

Psalm 1:3 and they will be like those trees planted by the rivers of water, and they will bring forth fruit.

We need to dedicate ourselves to prayer and become a source of life to those around us. We have no idea what happens in the Spirit realm. But God does and He will work in and through us to reach others.
