Proverbs 18:24
In studying what it takes to be a friend of God we should
understand first what a friend is. This way we will learn what the requirements are to be a
friend and also the demands of having a friend. What I mean by demands are that in
having a friend we must make ourselves vulnerable to them. We must leave our hearts
wide open to them so a closeness can be achieved. This is not easy and can be very
unnerving.
Prov. 18:24~A man that hath friends must show himself
friendly.
Let’s look at what the dictionary says about a friend
Friend: One who is attached to another by affection, one who has
esteem and regard for another and loves his society (a word to describe society is
fellowship)
Friendship: The feeling that subsists between friends or binds them
to one another; attachment to a person; mutual attachment, kind regard; intimacy between
friends.
To have a friendship with God is one of the most wonderful things
to experiences in this world. To have the closeness to God to say He is my friend.
Now first let us stop here and validate something before we go any
further. Can a man ever get so close to God that God would call him a friend? This is an
important question. Was there anyone that has already been a friend of God so that we
could use this as an example or validation that a man could get that close? We need
proof, not just hear say or a feeling because these could all be pushed aside as only
speculation on someones part not fact.
Well yes we do have proof that there was a man that God himself
considered a friend. Proof from the Word of God.
Isaiah 41:8 (Amplified Bible) But you Isreal, my servant, Jacob,
whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, My Friend
II Chronicles 20:7 (KJV) Art not thou our God, who didst drive out
the inhabitants of this land before thy people Isreal, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham
thy friend forever?
James 2:23 (KJV) ANd the scripture was fulfilled which saith;
Abraham believed God and it was imputed unto him for righteousness; and he was called
the Friend of God.
Here we see in three scriptures ( three witnesses) that Abraham was
(and is II Chronicles 20:7) a friend of God.
Therefore if we desire to be a friend of God’s it would be wise to
study the attributes of Abraham that put him in a position to be able to begin his walk as
the Friend of God!
Until then, God Bless!
God loves you and so do I!
