A Study On Worship
Lesson 3
God of Love and Mercy
Ephesians 2:4 & 5b
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us.....made us alive together with Christ
God Loves You! I know we say that all the time, but I want you to understand what that means.
John 3: 16-17
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved
God the Father loves Jesus more than anything else in the universe. They live and breathe together as one. You can’t begin to imagine how much He loves Jesus. But this scripture tells us that He loved us so much that He gave us His son to die for us. Think of someone you love very much and imagine giving them up to die for someone else. That would be the hardest thing you would
have to do. That’s how much He loves us. We are worth a lot to God! Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you are worthless or nothing. Just remember God loves you more than anyone ever could and you are not worthless. God doesn’t make any junk. You are His creation and He is proud of you. Do you think He would let Jesus die for nothing? You are precious and valuable in His sight!
Titus 3:4-6
But when the kindness and the love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of the regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Did we do anything ourselves to deserve salvation? No! It was because of God’s mercy and love. What does it mean to have mercy?
Leniency ( taking it easy) towards a guilty person, compassionate.
We were guilty of sin and going to hell, but God took mercy on us and saved us. Have you ever been mad at someone because they did something to you? You knew they deserved to be punished but something made you forgive them? That’s mercy. If you forgive, God will forgive you and someday you may need someone else to have mercy with you. Because without God’s mercy His love would have no channel.
Ephesians 2:4-10
God is rich in mercy. He has lots of it and it will never run out. For eternity,
forever. He is going to show us how much He loves us. Heaven is going to be wonderful! But He also wants us to have everything we need here.
Romans 5:5-8
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For when we were still without strength in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die, yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Did we have to become good in order for God to love us? Jesus didn’t die because everyone was good. That would be pointless and a crime for Him to die. No, man had sinned and Jesus died to make us righteous. So while we are sinners (not accepted Jesus) God still loves us. But He doesn’t want us to stay that way. If you don’t know Jesus you need to accept Him.
Hebrews 4:14-16
Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
God knows when you are hurting. You don’t have to wait until you go to church to pray. If you are His child your can pray to Him anytime, anywhere, and He will hear you and in His mercy, help you. Remember His Angels are all around us every day.
Lamentations 3:22,23
Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassion’s fail not. They are new every morning, Great is Your faithfulness.
God’s mercy will never run out. They are new every morning. God is faithful. He is always there. Imagine what it would be like to get up every morning and have everything new in your house. New clothes, new furniture, new everything, every morning. That’s what God’s mercy is like. It doesn’t matter what yesterday was like, God can make each day brand new. Just ask Him.
Psalms 25:4-7
Show me Your ways O Lord, teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me. For You are the God of my salvation, on You I wait all the day.
Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your loving kindness’, for they have been from of old. Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions. According to Your mercy remember me. For Your goodness sake, O Lord.
Ask God to show you each day what He wants you to do. Let Him teach you to be who He wants you to be, not what you want. You must learn to listen and hear His voice, because He is speaking to you all the time.. It’s like a radio.
The signal is out there, but you have to turn it on and tune it in to hear it. Do that with God and you will hear His voice.
Jeremiah 31:3
The Lord has appeared of old to me saying; "Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with loving kindness I have drawn you."
God is saying this to you!
Respond to God’s love and let Him hold you in His arms of mercy.
The Steadfast Love of the Lord never changes
His mercies never come to an end
They are new every morning
New every morning
Great is Thy Faithfulness oh Lord
Great is Thy Faithfulness
Are you getting to know God yet through these lessons? Can you see that He indeed is worthy of our praise and worship? As we continue on in our study of worship I hope you will indeed get to know God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit and know that they are worthy to be praised.
