A Study On Worship

Lesson 2

Our Awesome God

Daniel 9:4b

O Lord, Great and Awesome God, who keeps His covenant and mercy with those who love Him.

Last lesson we learned that God has always been and always will be. That He will always be there for us and will never leave us or forsake us.

This lesson we want to show you that He is awesome. What does the word awesome mean?

Awesome: To inspire with awe, to cause wonder with fear.

God is awesome! His wonderful creation causes us to wonder. All the beauty of what He has made is amazing. Any yet it makes you fear His power! Imagine being so powerful to make a universe.

Look at your hand right now. See each little line and crease? Look in the mirror. Look at your eyes, nose mouth and every small detail about you. Each detail was handmade by an Awesome God.

Think of the flowers, trees, animals, all of creation. God made everything. It is all too wonderful, too full of detail. It didn’t just "Happen" as some would say. It was a creation of a loving God and awesome God.

Psalm 66: 1-4

Make a joyful shout to God, all the earth. Sing out the honor of His name. Make His praise glorious. Say to God "How awesome are Your works! Through the greatness of Your power, Your enemies shall submit themselves to You. All the earth shall worship You, and sing praises to You. The shall sing praises to Your name."

Oh let’s Shout to the Lord, for He is worthy to be praised! He is a

great and awesome God!

Another way God is awesome is when He appears on the scene and people just fall over. Abraham fell on his face in the presence of an awesome God.

Genesis 17:3

Then Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him.

He is holy, and His presence is over-powering. Many times throughout the Bible when God appears people are awed, and some of them just fall over.

I Kings 8:10-11

And it came to pass, when the priest came out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord. So that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.

II Chronicles 5: 3-14

V13-14 Indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbal and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying

"For He is good, for His mercy endures forever."

that the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.

It was the Glory of the Lord that was in that place. What were the people doing? Praising and Worshipping the Lord. God came down to listen to them right there in the temple. Have you ever been in a thick fog that you could hardly see through? That’s what this was like, but the power of God was in it.

Acts 2: 1-4

The presence of God came in like a mighty rushing wind and it filled the place. The He appeared like fire on their heads, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost.

That is Awesome!

Exodus 3:1-6

Moses was taking care of his sheep and God came on the scene. He appeared as a flame in the middle of a bush. The bush continued to burn, but was not consumed. Only an Awesome God could do that!

God told Moses that he was on Holy Ground. He told him to take off his shoes. Moses must have been filled with wonder, fear and "Awe" because he hid His face because he was afraid to look at God.

Exodus 33: 18-23

And he said, Please, show me Your glory. Then He said "I will make all My goodness pass before you and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you......you cannot see My face for no man shall see me and live. And the Lord said Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back, but My face shall not be seen.

How awesome God must be that we cannot look at His face. Even at that, Moses’ face shone. He shone so much that he had to cover his face with a veil, it was too much to look at. He had been in the presence of an Awesome God and it was all over him.

As we learn to enter into praise and worship, God will inhabit our praise. He will manifest himself in our midst and His presence will become a tangible thing. We don’t go by feelings and such, but when the presence of the Lord is in a place, all that are sensitive to him will feel it.

He is powerful and holy and worthy to be praised.

God can be Awesome in your life. Do you have a need that just seems is never going to happen? God can do it! There is nothing too big or too small for Him. We just need to ask. He wants to fill you with wonder and fear of His power and might. Let God be God and He will amaze you and you will see that

He really is AWESOME!
