Luke 3:22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form
like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are
My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”
Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who
is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to
carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Here the Holy Spirit is referred to as a dove. And in the next scripture
as a fire. These would seem like they are contrary to one another. But
just like us, He has different aspects for different situations.
A dove is also a symbol of peace and purity, which signifies the purity
and peace the Holy Spirit brings. The Dove was chosen to go forth from
the Ark, to bring back hope.
I believe the Holy Spirit was shown as a dove as a promise to those
there that he would bring peace, hope
As a Fire -
Malachi 3
“Behold, I send My messenger, And he will prepare the way before Me. And
the Lord, whom you seek, Will suddenly come to His temple, Even the
Messenger of the covenant, In whom you delight. Behold, He is coming,”
Says the Lord of hosts. “But who can endure the day of His coming? And
who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire And like
launderers’ soap. He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver; He
will purify the sons of Levi, And purge them as gold and silver, That
they may offer to the Lord An offering in righteousness.
He will purify us with fire from Heaven and prepare us for going out
into the world to win the lost.
The Promise of the Holy Spirit
John 7:37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and
cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38
He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will
flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the
Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit
was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Jesus Promises Another Helper
John 14
15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father,
and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever
17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it
neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you
and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you
will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 At that day you will
know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.
The Gift of His Peace
25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you.26
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name,
He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things
that I said to you.
27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world
gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it
be afraid. 28 You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming
back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am
going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.
John 20: The Apostles Commissioned
19 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when
the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the
Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be
with you.” 20 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His
side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 So Jesus
said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also
send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said
to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any,
they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are
retained.”
I believe this is the moment that the disciples got saved. He breathed
God's breath into them as God did to Adam, and they became the first
born again believers. Only instead of the Holy Spirit resting on them,
he now was in them, creating the new birth in them.
This is the first
act that the Spirit will do in a unsaved person, he will birth them into
the body of Christ. It is only through the Holy Spirit that we can get
saved. He is then in you and will never leave you but you also need him
to Baptise you.
The second act of the Holy Spirit is the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
John 15:26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the
Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will
testify of Me.
John 16:5-15
The Work of the Holy Spirit
5 “But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where
are You going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow
has filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to
your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will
not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. 8 And when He
has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of
judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of
righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of
judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them
now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide
you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but
whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14
He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to
you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that
He will take of Mine and declare it to you. I have yet many things to
say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
I believe that the reason Jesus could not tell them some things because
they would not understand it because they did not yet have the baptism
of the Holy Spirit. And as He said "He will lead you and guide you into
all truth".
Many Christians to not fully understand the Holy Spirit and how
important He is to the Trinity and to you understanding the Word of God.
The Holy Spirit is not a thing or an it. He is a living being, part of
the trinity of the Godhead. Jesus sent him here to help us and teach us.
He is our comforter, our friend, teacher, companion and our strength. We
can rely on him, he has been here since the beginning of time. He wants
to empower you to witness, and heal the sick. And we can only do this
successfully with the baptism of the Holy Spirit...But we have to ask
for it. We have to have a hunger for more. We need to invite Him to be a
part of our lives the way He is meant to be.
The book of Acts is not the Acts of the Disciples, as some believe and
when Acts ended so did the healing and miracles. It is the book of the
Acts of the Holy Spirit, and he is still acting on our behalf. He never
has stopped because he was commissioned by Jesus to come and be with us,
because he was going to Heaven. Nothing has changed, that is still what
He is doing and will continue to do until Christ returns for us!
Acts 1:8
8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;
and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and
Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Coming of the Holy Spirit
Acts 2
1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one
accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as
of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were
sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and
one sat upon each of them.
Coming of the Holy Spirit
Acts 2 Message version
Without warning there was a sound like a strong wind, gale force—no one
could tell where it came from. It filled the whole building. Then, like
a wildfire, the Holy Spirit spread through their ranks, and they started
speaking in a number of different languages as the Spirit prompted them
Acts 2 TPT
2 Suddenly they heard the sound of a violent blast of wind rushing into
the house from out of the heavenly realm. The roar of the wind was so
overpowering it was all anyone could bear! 3 Then all at once a pillar
of fire appeared before their eyes. It separated into tongues of fire
that engulfed empowered by the Spirit to speak in languages they had
never learned! They were all filled and equipped with the Holy Spirit
and were inspired to speak in tongues—empowered by the Spirit to speak
in languages they had never learned!
Acts 4:30-32
30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may
be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.” 31 And when they
had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and
they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of
God with boldness.32 This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. 33
Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received
from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which
you now see and hear.
We were never meant to get saved and then struggle the rest of our lives
to try to please God and do the work of the ministry here by our own
strength. We have the Holy Spirit in us but we must yield to him and let
him work through us. We need the Baptism of the Holy Spirit just as the
saints received him on the day of Pentecost. We need Him to be active in
our life.
We need Him to understand the Scriptures
John 16:13
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into
all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He
hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
John 14:26
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name,
He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things
that I said to you.
We need him to help with our Prayer Life
Jude:20-21
20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith,
praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God,
looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
We need Him to help us in Ministry and to winning others to the Lord
Acts 11:15-17
15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us
at the beginning. 16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He
said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with
the Holy Spirit.’ 17 If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave
us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could
withstand God?”
Acts 11:23-25
23 When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and
encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with
the Lord. 24 For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of
faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.
Acts 19:6
And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them,
and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
And we need Him for Peace and JOY!
Romans 14:17
for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and
peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Even Jesus got filled with the Holy Spirit on the day he was baptized in
water, before he was tempted by Satan and before he started his
ministry.
The Lamb of God
John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said,
“Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is
He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for
He was before me.’ 31 I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed
to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.”
32 And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from
heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. 33 I did not know Him, but
He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the
Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with
the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son
of God.”
John Baptizes Jesus Luke 3
21 When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also
was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. 22 And the
Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice
came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well
pleased.”
Luke 4:1-3
New King James Version
Satan Tempts Jesus
4 Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the
Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 being tempted
for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and
afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry.
Jesus Begins His Galilean Ministry
14 Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news
of Him went out through all the surrounding region. 15 And He taught in
their synagogues, being glorified by all.
If you want to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. We would love to
pray for you.
