This is a lesson close to my heart. It is inspired by a song called
The Goodness of God by Jenn Johnson

I cannot listen to this song without weeping every time because it reminds me constantly of how good God has been to me my entire life. For several weeks I kept waking up with this song coming out of my spirit, so loud it woke me. I knew that God wanted me to teach on His Goodness. This is the lesson he gave me to share with you.

John 14:7-12
The Passion Translation
7 And from now on you will realize that you have seen him and experienced him.” 8 Philip spoke up, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be all that we need!” 9 Jesus replied, “Philip, I’ve been with you all this time and you still don’t know who I am? How could you ask me to show you the Father, for anyone who has looked at me has seen the Father. 10 Don’t you believe that the Father is living in me and that I am living in the Father? Even my words are not my own but come from my Father, for he lives in me and performs his miracles of power through me. 11 Believe that I live as one with my Father and that my Father lives as one with me—or at least, believe because of the mighty miracles I have done.

How long have you known Jesus? How well do you know him? How well do you know the Father? The disciples had known and followed Jesus for 3 years. They were constantly together, traveling all over the middle east. How could you not know him? Obviously...the disciples didn't get it. To see Jesus is to see the Father.

Sadly many Christians say they love Jesus, and know what he did for them. But really have no concept of who the Father is. He's not some shadowy figure in the background with a bunch of rules and a hammer if you don't obey them. He is a loving Father. He loves us so much that he sent His son to die for us, and yet people accuse him of horrible things. That he wants us sick and poor and always struggling to "Make it through" this life. Why would he go to all the trouble of sending Jesus to take our place if we didn't reap everything he died for. How many of you remember the saying that went around years ago and you still hear it once and a while..."God is Good...all the time...and all the time...God is Good. Was it just words that we mimicked because it was the "In" saying...or do we understand how good he really is. And do we understand all that implies? He is a Good God! And that is what I want to convey to you in this lesson.

Jesus continued

Jesus Prophesies about the Holy Spirit
15 “Loving me empowers you to obey my commands. 16–17 And I will ask the Father and he will give you another Savior, the Holy Spirit of Truth, who will be to you a friend just like me—and he will never leave you. The world won’t receive him because they can’t see him or know him. But you know him intimately because he remains with you and will live inside you. 18 “I promise that I will never leave you helpless or abandon you as orphans—I will come back to you.

OK so whatever Jesus did...we can do. But before we can do the greater works, we first have to do the works. And we don't have to do it alone, he left us the Comforter to help us on our journey. Even though the disciples didn't even realize it, they had been walking with the Holy Spirit as well as Jesus. The miracles were all done through the Holy Spirit. He came on Jesus when John baptised him before he started his ministry. (An example to us that we should not start ministering until we have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit) So even though physically, they could not see him, Jesus told them that he had been with them all the time. I believe that is what gave them the courage and strength to carry on the ministry after Jesus left for heaven, because they had seen what he was capable of doing. So they relied on him, just as Jesus had done...and saw mighty things happen.

Acts 10:38 38 “Jesus of Nazareth was anointed by God with the Holy Spirit and with great power. He did wonderful things for others and divinely healed all who were under the tyranny of the devil, for God had anointed him.

Doing good...has an anointing! Why? Because God is in it! When I choose to do good, God is right there with me anointing me to be a testimony to others, that God the Father and the Holy Spirit are with me, as they were with Jesus. And were with the disciples and with anyone that is born again and Spirit filled and that is open to the Spirit working in their lives.

Indwelling of the Father and the Son
19 Soon I will leave this world and they will see me no longer, but you will see me, because I will live again, and you will come alive too. 20 So when that day comes, you will know that I am living in the Father and that you are one with me, for I will be living in you. 21 Those who truly love me are those who obey my commands. Whoever passionately loves me will be passionately loved by my Father. And I will passionately love him in return and will reveal myself to him.”

Believe in Jesus, and he will live in you and along with him, God the Father and the Holy Spirit. Everywhere you go...there is four of you walking along. You are never alone.

Ephesians 1 TPT
May God himself, the heavenly Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, release grace over you and impart total well-being into your lives.

Our Sonship and the Father’s Plan
3 Every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm has already been lavished upon us as a love gift from our wonderful heavenly Father, the Father of our Lord Jesus—all because he sees us wrapped into Christ. This is why we celebrate him with all our hearts! 4 And in love he chose us before he laid the foundation of the universe! Because of his great love, he ordained us, so that we would be seen as holy in his eyes with an unstained innocence. 5–6 For it was always in his perfect plan to adopt us as his delightful children, through our union with Jesus, the Anointed One, so that his tremendous love that cascades over us would glorify his grace for the same love he has for the Beloved, Jesus, he has for us. And this unfolding plan brings him great pleasure! 7 Since we are now joined to Christ, we have been given the treasures of redemption by his blood—the total cancellation of our sins—all because of the cascading riches of his grace. 8 This superabundant grace is already powerfully working in us, releasing all forms of wisdom and practical understanding. 9 And through the revelation of the Anointed One, he unveiled his secret desires to us—the hidden mystery of his long-range plan, which he was delighted to implement from the very beginning of time. 10 And because of God’s unfailing purpose, this detailed plan will reign supreme through every period of time until the fulfillment of all the ages finally reaches its climax—when God makes all things new in all of heaven and earth through Jesus Christ. 11 Through our union with Christ we too have been claimed by God as his own inheritance. Before we were even born, he gave us our destiny; that we would fulfill the plan of God who always accomplishes every purpose and plan in his heart. 12 God’s purpose was that we Jews, who were the first to long for the messianic hope, would be the first to believe in the Anointed One and bring great praise and glory to God! 13 And because of him, when you who are not Jews heard the revelation of truth, you believed in the wonderful news of salvation. Now we have been stamped with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit. 14 He is given to us like an engagement ring, as the first instalment of what’s coming! He is our hope-promise of a future inheritance which seals us until we have all of redemption’s promises and experience complete freedom—all for the supreme glory and honor of God!

WOW! The gospel in a nutshell. And then he prays for them to have the wisdom to understand it all.

Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians
Paul Prays for the Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation
15 Because of this, since I first heard about your strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and your tender love toward all his devoted ones, 16 my heart is always full and overflowing with thanks to God for you as I constantly remember you in my prayers. 17 I pray that the Father of glory, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, would impart to you the riches of the Spirit of wisdom and the Spirit of revelation to know him through your deepening intimacy with him.
Only through wisdom and revelation, will God be known to you.

Proverbs 4:5-8
5 So make wisdom your quest search for the revelation of life’s meaning. Don’t let what I say go in one ear and out the other. 6 Stick with wisdom and she will stick to you, protecting you throughout your days. She will rescue all those who passionately listen to her voice. 7 Wisdom is the most valuable commodity—so buy it! Revelation-knowledge is what you need—so invest in it! 8 Wisdom will exalt you when you exalt her truth. She will lead you to honor and favor when you live your life by her insights. (read all of Proverbs 4)

Ephesians 1:18 I pray that the light of God will illuminate the eyes of your imagination, flooding you with light, until you experience the full revelation of the hope of his calling that is, the wealth of God’s glorious inheritances that he finds in us, his holy ones! 19 I pray that you will continually experience the immeasurable greatness of God’s power made available to you through faith. Then your lives will be an advertisement of this immense power as it works through you! This is the mighty power 20 that was released when God raised Christ from the dead and exalted him to the place of highest honor and supreme authority in the heavenly realm! 21 And now he is exalted as first above every ruler, authority, government, and realm of power in existence! He is gloriously enthroned over every name that is ever praised, not only in this age, but in the age that is coming! 22 And he alone is the leader and source of everything needed in the church. God has put everything beneath the authority of Jesus Christ and has given him the highest rank above all others. 23 And now we, his church, are his body on the earth and that which fills him who is being filled by it!

Ephesians 2:5-7
5 Even when we were dead and doomed in our many sins, he united us into the very life of Christ and saved us by his wonderful grace! 6 He raised us up with Christ the exalted One, and we ascended with him into the glorious perfection and authority of the heavenly realm, for we are now co-seated as one with Christ! 7 Throughout the coming ages we will be the visible display of the infinite riches of his grace and kindness, which was showered upon us in Jesus Christ.
Such powerful prayers! And we should be praying them daily for our loved ones and those we meet and witness to...and for ourselves. Everything that God did for Jesus, he has done for us. In His eyes, you are already sitting with Jesus in Heaven, because we are His body, because we accepted him.

Hebrews 7:24-26
24 But Jesus permanently holds his priestly office, since he lives forever and will never have a successor! 25 So he is able to save fully from now throughout eternity, everyone who comes to God through him, because he lives to pray continually for them. 26 He is the High Priest who perfectly fits our need—holy, without a trace of evil, without the ability to deceive, incapable of sin, and exalted beyond the heavens!

Jesus is always praying for us. He is our High Priest! He is a faithful high priest that never gives up on us, no matter what we have happening in our lives, he is our strength and hope for better things ahead.

The Lord, the Psalmist’s Shepherd.
A Psalm of David. (Amplified Bible)
23 The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, to guide and to shield me], I shall not want. 2 He lets me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still and quiet waters. 3 He refreshes and restores my soul (life); He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the [sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort and console me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You have anointed and refreshed my head with oil; My cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life, And I shall dwell forever [throughout all my days] in the house and in the presence of the Lord.

Here are some scriptures about the Goodness of God.

Lamentations 3
22 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. 24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” 25 The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him. 26 It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

Psalm 31:19
Lord, how wonderful you are! You have stored up so many good things for us, like a treasure chest heaped up and spilling over with blessings all for those who honor and worship you! Everybody knows what you can do for those who turn and hide themselves in you.

Psalm 27:13
Yet I believe with all my heart that I will see again your goodness, Yahweh, in the land of life eternal!

Psalm 107:7-9
7 He led us out by the right way until we reached a suitable city to dwell in. 8 So lift your hands and thank God for his marvelous kindness and for all his miracles of mercy for those he loves. 9 How he satisfies the souls of thirsty ones and fills the hungry with goodness!

The Lord’s Goodness to the Faithful
A Psalm of David.
138 I thank you, Lord, and with all the passion of my heart
I worship you in the presence of angels!
Heaven’s mighty ones will hear my voice
as I sing my loving praise to you.
2 I bow down before your divine presence
and bring you my deepest worship
as I experience your tender love and your living truth.
For your Word and the fame of your name
have been magnified above all else!
3 At the very moment I called out to you, you answered me!
You strengthened me deep within my soul
and breathed fresh courage into me.
4 One day all the kings of the earth
will rise to give you thanks when they hear the living words
that I have heard you speak.
5 They too will sing of your wonderful ways,
for your ineffable glory is great!
6 For though you are lofty and exalted,
you stoop to embrace the lowly.
Yet you keep your distance from those filled with pride.
7 By your mighty power I can walk through any devastation,
and you will keep me alive, reviving me.
Your power set me free from the hatred of my enemies.
8 You keep every promise you’ve ever made to me!
Since your love for me is constant and endless,
I ask you, Lord, to finish every good thing that you’ve begun in me!

2 Chronicles 5:12-14
The Levites who were the singers, all those of Asaph and Heman and Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, stood at the east end of the altar, clothed in white linen, having cymbals, stringed instruments and harps, and with them one hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets— 13 indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying: “For He is good, For His mercy endures forever,” that the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, 14 so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.

This is how our church services should be. So filled with praise and worship for God that His presence fills the room!

So why is it so important to understand how good God is? So we can be a witness of it to the world. Over the centuries God has been pictured as the bad guy...and sadly by Christians themselves. They don't call him bad, but they blame all the bad that happens, on him, so it's the same thing. That he wants us to be sick and run down etc.

It is time for the church to start to proclaim the goodness of God and preach the truth of the gospel so that the world will see His goodness through us. No one wants a sickly, woe is me Christianity. They need love and life and all that God has and is. Especially in times like we are going through right now. People need hope! They need answers. The world is offering darkness, anger, sorrow and death. We need to be a light in that darkness.

Roman 2:3-4
3 And no matter who you think you are, when you judge others who do these things and then do the same things yourself, what makes you think that you will escape God’s judgment? 4 Do the riches of his extraordinary kindness make you take him for granted and despise him? Haven’t you experienced how kind and understanding he has been to you? Don’t mistake his tolerance for acceptance. Do you realize that all the wealth of his extravagant kindness is meant to melt your heart and lead you into repentance?

When I found this scripture, God showed me that this was the whole point of what he was trying to teach me with this lesson. His goodness is to lead us to repentance, and make us change our hearts towards Him and towards life. If we have an attitude like God we will affect everyone and everything that we touch.

Acts 4:12-14
There is no one else who has the power to save us, for there is only one name to whom God has given authority by which we must experience salvation: the name of Jesus.” 13 The council members were astonished as they witnessed the bold courage of Peter and John, especially when they discovered that they were just ordinary men who had never had religious training. Then they began to understand the effect Jesus had on them simply by spending time with him. 14 Standing there with them was the healed man, and there was nothing further they could say.

I want people to know...that I have been with Jesus, don't you?

During this year of 2020, I have seen all kinds of things posted and talked about that brings despair and fear. And Christians jumping right in there with it and adding to the darkness. We need to stop this. We need to be sharing hope and the goodness of God, in spite of all of what is going on around us. So how do we show the goodness of God? By being like Jesus.

Ephesians 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Walk in the Fruits of the Spirit

Galatians 5:22-23
22–23 But the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit within you is divine love in all its varied expressions: joy that overflows, peace that subdues, patience that endures, kindness in action, a life full of virtue, faith that prevails, gentleness of heart, and strength of spirit. Never set the law above these qualities, for they are meant to be limitless.

Ephesians 2:4-5
4 But God still loved us with such great love. He is so rich in compassion and mercy. 5 Even when we were dead and doomed in our many sins, he united us into the very life of Christ and saved us by his wonderful grace!

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
11 With this in mind, we constantly pray that our God will empower you to live worthy of all that he has invited you to experience. And we pray that by his power all the pleasures of goodness and all works inspired by faith would fill you completely. 12 By doing this the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you will be glorified in him, by the marvelous grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I want to be counted worthy of this calling. I want to show God's Goodness to others, and lead them out of darkness into the Light!

Psalm 145
My heart explodes with praise to you!
Now and forever my heart bows in worship to you,
my King and my God!
2 Every day I will lift up my praise to your name
with praises that will last throughout eternity.
3 Lord, you are great and worthy of the highest praise!
For there is no end to the discovery
of the greatness that surrounds you.

Become aware of God's goodness in your life, meditate on it, be blessed by it, Get the anointing from it and then share it with others. It is the only way this world will be won!

Goodness of God

I love You, Lord
For Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I've been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
And all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
In the darkest night
You are close like no other
I've known You as a Father
I've known You as a Friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God
And all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
'Cause Your goodness is running after
It's running after me
Your goodness is running after
It's running after me
With my life laid down
I'm surrendered now
I give You everything
'Cause Your goodness is running after
It's running after me
'Cause Your goodness is running after
It's running after me
Your goodness is running after
It's running after me
With my life laid down
I'm surrendered now
I give You everything
'Cause Your goodness is running after
It keeps running after me
And all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I'm gonna sing of the goodness of God
'Cause all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I'm gonna sing of the goodness of God
Oh, I'm gonna sing of the goodness of God
