Ephesians 6:10-18

Lesson 2

What is Truth?

Ephesians 6:14a
14 Put on truth as a belt to strengthen you to stand in triumph.

John 14:6
Jesus explained, “I am the Way, I am the Truth, and I am the Life. No one comes next to the Father except through union with me. To know me is to know my Father too.

This is the main truth...without it nothing else matters. If we believe that Jesus is the truth, all else will fall into place.

John 8:31-32
The Son Gives Freedom
31 Jesus said to those Jews who believed in him, “When you continue to embrace all that I teach, you prove that you are my true followers. 32 For if you embrace the truth, it will release true freedom into your lives.”

But many do not want to hear the Truth.

Matthew 13:13-16
That’s why I teach the people using parables, because they think they’re looking for truth, yet because their hearts are un-teachable, they never discover it. Although they will listen to me, they never fully perceive the message I speak. 14 The prophecy of Isaiah describes them perfectly: Although they listen carefully to everything I speak, they don’t understand a thing I say. They look and pretend to see, but the eyes of their hearts are closed. 15 Their minds are dull and slow to perceive, their ears are plugged and are hard of hearing, and they have deliberately shut their eyes to the truth. Otherwise they would open their eyes to see, and open their ears to hear, and open their minds to understand. Then they would turn to me and I would instantly heal them. 16 “But blissful are your eyes, for they see. Delighted are your ears, for they are open to hear all these things.

Be one of those that want to hear the Truth, and proclaim it to others.

Matthew 18:18-19
“Receive this truth: Whatever you forbid on earth will be considered to be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you release on earth will be considered to be released in heaven. 19 Again, I give you an eternal truth: If two of you agree to ask God for something in a symphony of prayer, my heavenly Father will do it for you.

John 4:23–24 From now on, worshiping the Father will not be a matter of the right place but with a right heart. For God is a Spirit, and he longs to have sincere worshipers who adore him in the realm of the Spirit and in truth.”
So if we know Jesus, we shall be free.

But wait...there is more!

John14:16–17 And I will ask the Father and he will give you another Savior, the Holy Spirit of Truth, who will be to you a friend just like me—and he will never leave you. The world won’t receive him because they can’t see him or know him. But you know him intimately because he remains with you and will live inside you.

John 15:26
26 “And I will send you the Divine Encourager from the very presence of my Father. He will come to you, the Spirit of Truth, emanating from the Father, and he will speak to you about me. 27 And you will tell everyone the truth about me, for you have walked with me from the start.”

Both these scriptures refer to the "Spirit of Truth"

What makes Him the Spirit of Truth? He is part of the Godhead and part of Jesus and the Father, which makes the Father Truth as well.

John 16:13 But when the truth-giving Spirit comes, he will unveil the reality of every truth within you. He won’t speak on his own, but only what he hears from the Father, and he will reveal prophetically to you what is to come.

John 17:17 “Your Word is truth! So make them holy by the truth.
So we see that the word is Truth, who is the word?

John 1:1 NKJ
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

TPT
In the beginning the Living Expression was already there.
And the Living Expression was with God, yet fully God.

So the Word is Jesus, The Word is God, The Spirit is Truth.

So we see that the Truth is God the Father, God the Son, And God the Holy Spirit, since the three are one.

So how do we use this truth?

II Corinthians 6:7 We commend ourselves to you by our truthful teachings, by the power of God working through us, and with the mighty weapons of righteousness—a sword in one hand and a shield in the other.

Ephesians 5:9 9 And the supernatural fruits of his light will be seen in you—goodness, righteousness, and truth.

II Timothy 2:15 15 Always be eager to present yourself before God as a perfect and mature minister, without shame, as one who correctly explains the Word of Truth.

We need to study the word, know the truth, and use it to stand against the devil. Then the power of God will be there, and the fruits will be evident in our lives. If we can realize that we have the Trinity behind us...how can we lose?

But you must "Know" the truth, not just read it.

II Timothy 3:7 They are always learning but never discover the revelation-knowledge of truth.

Lots of people read God’s word, but if you don’t get it in your heart, it will not be real to you, and you will not know how to use it.

The anointing is where the power is. The Word is anointed but you need the anointing to make it work for you. For, the anointing breaks the yoke of bondage.

I John 2:20-21, 27 But the Holy One has anointed you and you all know the truth. 21 So I’m writing to you not because you don’t know the truth, but because you do know it, and no lie belongs to the truth. 27 But the wonderful anointing you have received from God is so much greater than their deception and now lives in you. There’s no need for anyone to keep teaching you. His anointing teaches you all that you need to know, for it will lead you into truth, not a counterfeit. So just as the anointing has taught you, remain in him.

2 Timothy 2:1
Grace to Overcome
Timothy, my dear son, live your life empowered by God’s free-flowing grace, which is your true strength, found in the anointing of Jesus and your union with him!

I John 2:3-5  3 Here’s how we can be sure that we’ve truly come to know God: if we keep his commands. 4 If someone claims, “I have come to know God by experience,” yet doesn’t keep God’s commands, he is a phoney and the truth finds no place in him. 5 But the love of God will be perfected within the one who obeys God’s Word.

We must be walking in the word of Truth, with no sin in our life to make it work for us. For sin and lies are not of God, they are of their father the devil.

With all of these scriptures we see perhaps why it was the first piece of armour mentioned. For without Truth, we have no support. The God head is the foundation of our armour. The girdle of truth is a very important part of the armour, and that is why it is put on first.

The girding of the loins was done as a support. It was a garment that was wrapped around the waist and then brought up through the legs and tucked in at the waist, much like the modern day girdle, in theory. It gave support for the loins and strength for the back in battle.

So Jesus the Truth, is our support and strength in time of trouble. The Holy Spirit, leads us and guides us into all truth and the Father leads us to worship in Spirit and in Truth. This is our first step to be ready for battle. So let us gird up with the word of truth. Stand firm on the word of Truth.

I John 4:1-6 Delightfully loved friends, don’t trust every spirit, but carefully examine what they say to determine if they are of God, because many false prophets have mingled into the world. 2 Here’s the test for those with the genuine Spirit of God: they will confess Jesus as the Christ who has come in the flesh. 3 Everyone who does not acknowledge that Jesus is from God has the spirit of antichrist, which you heard was coming and is already active in the world. 4 Little children, you can be certain that you belong to God and have conquered them, for the One who is living in you is far greater than the one who is in the world. 5 They belong to this world and they articulate the spirit of this world, and the world listens to them. 6 But we belong to God, and whoever truly knows God listens to us. Those who refuse to listen to us do not belong to God. That is how we can know the difference between the spirit of truth and the spirit of deceit.

There is so much "un-truth" in the world today. And people can be convinced that it is truth. But if you know the "Truth of the Word of God" you will not be deceived. But be sure that it is not just head knowledge, but heart knowledge. Because the devil is a liar and the father of lies and will take every opportunity to lie to you and try to convince you that it is truth.

Galatians 6:6-10
The Passion Translation
6 And those who are taught the Word must share all good things with their teacher.
We Harvest What We Plant
7 God will never be mocked! For what you plant will always be the very thing you harvest. 8 The harvest you reap reveals the seed that you planted. If you plant the corrupt seeds of self-life into this natural realm, you can expect a harvest of corruption. If you plant the good seeds of Spirit-life you will reap beautiful fruits that grow from the everlasting life of the Spirit. 9 And don’t allow yourselves to be weary in planting good seeds, for the season of reaping the wonderful harvest you’ve planted is coming! 10 Take advantage of every opportunity to be a blessing to others, especially to our brothers and sisters in the family of faith!

Matthew 13:21
Shortly after he hears it, troubles and persecutions come because of the kingdom message he received. Then he quickly falls away, for the truth didn’t sink deeply into his heart.

Matthew 10:16-19 NKJV
16 “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. 17 But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues. 18 You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. 19 But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; 20 for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.

The Passion Translation
16 Now, remember, it is I who sends you out, even though you feel vulnerable as lambs going into a pack of wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes yet as harmless as doves. 17 “Be on your guard! For there will be those who will betray you before their religious councils and brutally beat you with whips in their public gatherings. 18 And because you follow me, they will take you to stand trial in front of rulers and even kings as an opportunity to testify of me before them and the unbelievers. 19 So when they arrest you, don’t worry about how to speak or what you are to say, for the Holy Spirit will give you at that very moment the words to speak. 20 It won’t be you speaking but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

Take the Truth with you wherever you go and you will defeat the enemy. That's how Jesus did it!

Luke 4:8
Jesus rebuked him and said, “Satan, get behind me! For it is written in the Scriptures, ‘Only One is worthy of adoration; therefore, worship only the Lord your God and love him supremely.’ ”

Luke 4:10-11
For it is written in the Scriptures, ‘God has given his angels instructions to protect you from harm. For angels’ hands will hold you up and keep you from hurting even one foot on a stone.’ ”

Luke 4:12
Jesus replied, “It is also written in the Scriptures, ‘How dare you provoke the Lord your God!’ ”

Jesus used the Word of God against the devil and he overcame the temptations set before him. We can do the same.

The Truth will set you free! It will set others free. Now that you know what the Truth is, you are responsible to share it with others. But for them to be open to hear we must first pray. Because in intercession is where the battle is won. It opens doors for you to spread the Truth so that others can be set free.

Don't go into battle without your armour!
