1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,
the evidence of things not
To understand the above scripture, it might help if you put it into a natural
application. Jesus did this all the time. He took everyday objects
and used them to explain Biblical truths.
For me an easy way to think about it is like this. I like to be
creative. Whether sewing, web designing or making dolls...all start with a
material of some kind. Without fabric, I cannot sew. Without
porcelain, I cannot make a doll...and so on.
I can look at a piece of fabric and a pattern, and see what the finished
product will look like. Maybe no one else can, but I can. Now if I
never cut out the fabric, it will never come to a place where the item can be
worn. I do have to do something to get to the vision that I have in my
So it is with Faith. Hope is the "fabric", so to speak, of what I am
believing for. How am I to envision what I am believing for, if I don't
know what it is. What is it you need? Healing, prosperity?
Whatever it is, that is the first thing you need to decide.
Once you decide, find a scripture that promises what you need and stand on
it. Type it out, put it where you can see it. Read it every day and
keep it in your sight.
God wants us to be specific. If you need healing, then read scriptures on
healing. If you need money, read scriptures on prosperity. Whatever
you need, build your Hope with the scriptures. Then you can start to
The reason this is so important is because we know that the devil is going to
come to try to tear down what you are believing for. If your Hope is in
the Word, that will not happen.
24 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen
is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for
what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.
As humans we always want to see something to believe it
exists. That is so contrary to what the word teaches us. God wants us
to trust His word. To have faith in Him, no matter what it looks like.
Since the fall of man we have had difficulty doing that,
which was the plan of the devil all along. To put trust in what we see
or what we can do, instead of in almighty God and what he promises us, if we
will only believe. The Word gives us Hope! God gives us Hope!
114 You are my hiding place and my shield;
I hope in Your word.
7 Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
And whose hope is the LORD.
