Choose Life!

Lesson 1

Deuteronomy 30:19-20

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing, therefore, choose life, that both you and your seed may live.

That you may love the Lord your God and that you may obey his voice, and that you may cling unto him, for he is your life and the length of your days, that you may dwell in the land.

As we see here, we have the ability and power to choose life and blessing over death and curses. The unfortunate thing is that most people do not realize this and just go about life thinking that they have to take whatever comes their way. They feel helpless when it comes to dealing with pressure and decisions in life. Thinking that is just their “Lot” in life to fail all the time.

Well this just isn’t so. We have a free will and a choice of whatever we want to accept or reject that comes our way. So choose life, so that you might live to the fullest.

And how do we choose life? Just by thinking it? Or wishing things would come to pass? No we have to take an active part in what happens to us but speaking it out of our mouth

Matthew 12:35-37 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

For by thy words thou shall be justified, and by thy words thou shall be condemned.

We need to stop speaking idle words. Like “I can’t do it” when

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all thing through Christ who strengthens me.”

If you tell yourself enough times that you can’t do it…you will believe it.  On the other hand…if you tell yourself enough times that you can do it, you will believe that instead. Repeat the above verse out loud right now and believe the words you are hearing coming out of your own mouth.

It has been shown that negative words can have an impact on us. Others saying it to you is bad enough, but when you hear yourself say negative things, that will have even more of an impact on you. You can convince yourself, with the help of others and your own words, that you will fail.

Taking this over to the positive side. If you hear others say to you that you can do it, it is encouraging. But if you will look at yourself in the mirror each day and say

“I know you can do it! I have faith in you!”

It will have so much more influence on what you do that day.

Add to that the word of God that says

Romans 10:10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

This is a biblical principle. It will work for whatever you need.

If you need healing, believe it and confess it.

If you need deliverance, believe it and confess it.

Whatever you need to be set free from, if it is a bondage, it is bad, Choose freedom! Believe it and confess it and you will see it come to pass.

So how do we get our mind set on the positive instead of the negative?

Philippians 4:8  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

We have the ability to choose our own thoughts. We can choose negative thoughts or positive. If we choose the negative ones, it will show in our life in a negative way. Through sickness and bitterness. But if we choose positive thoughts, it will also show in our life as health, prosperity, joy and peace and so on. Now which is the better choice I ask you? Not hard to see from my viewing point.

Why do we need to choose life? For our sake and for the sake of those that love us.  Walking in bondage takes a toll on everyone. If you are not happy, then those around you are not happy. They are influenced and affected by your behaviour, as much are you are by theirs. So we need to be aware of this, if we care about those we love.

We also need to choose life for our health sake. Choosing the right things will keep us well, whether it be food, drink or even rest. Whether is be listening to negative reports or choosing to listen to good reports. This includes what you watch as well. All contribute to our attitude and well being!  But also, and most important, is this

That you may love the Lord you God and that you may obey his voice, and that you may cling unto him, for he is your life and the length of your days, that you may dwell in the land

We need to do it for Him. We are his reflection in this world. If we profess to belong to him and continue to walk in bondage, what kind of a testimony is that?  And how can we have life, unless He gives it? We can’t!  Only He gives us life and life more abundantly!

Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

To allow bondage of any kind over take us is to make Christ’s sacrifice or no effect.  We need to stay free.

John 8:36  If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. Don’t throw away your freedom by giving into the bondage that the enemy would try to keep you in. You are a child of God and have a choice!
